The bookmakers have been busy slashing the odds on Newcastle United splashing the cash over the coming months amid reports that an imminent takeover is on the cards in the coming days or weeks. Fans have been somewhat split in their feelings about a takeover from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, however the general consensus around St James’ Park is that it can only be an improvement on previous owners.
It will certainly bring some much-needed cash to the club and punters have been busy backing the club to be splashing the cash in the upcoming transfer markets, the odds shortening on several players moving to St James’ Park.
Magpies fans will certainly be pleased to learn that Aston Villa’s John McGinn is in line to join the club during the next few months, the midfielder an 11/4 punt to make the love north. The same odds are available on former Newcastle striker Salomon Rondon returning to the fold.
Arturo Vidal would certainly be a useful addition to the Newcastle United squad and the top midfielder is a 5/1 punt to head to Tyneside before the end of the winter transfer window, while controversial but undeniably talented striker Alfredo Morelos is an 11/2 shot to swap Ibrox for St James’ Park in the coming months.
Perhaps unbelievably, Gareth Bale is just 4/1 to be wearing the black and white shirt next season while Edinson Cavani is a 6/1 punt to move to Tyneside. Timo Werner is a 9/1 shot to join the Magpies while Celtic’s Odsonne Edouard is 10/1 to swap the Scottish Premiership for the English top-flight.
Either way, it seems as though perennial underachievers Newcastle United could be on the cusp of a spending frenzy and they will hope to follow the financial path previously forged by Man City.
Can Money really buy happiness? Perhaps not but a trophy or two wouldn’t go amiss!
