Southampton v Chelsea Match Preview

Live coverage on BT Sport 1 at 12:30pm, Saturday 20th February 2021

  • Southampton have lost their last six in the Premier League
  • The Saints have dropped to 13th position in the league table
  • Chelsea have won their last four in the Premier League

Our tip: Back Chelsea to win and both teams to score

We’re happy to back Chelsea to outgun their rivals on the south-coast at lunchtime on Saturday.

Disappointing form

Southampton have been tumbling down the Premier League table on the back of some hugely disappointing form. Ralph Hassenhuttl’s men now sit in 13th position in the Premier League table and they are in free-fall having suffered defeat in each of their last league games. Given that they are up against Chelsea on Saturday afternoon, we don’t envisage Southampton’s poor run coming to an end this weekend.

Five on the trot

The Saints have been having few issues finding the back of the net with goals coming in six of their last eight competitive outings, however they will be going head-to-head with a Chelsea side which have won five on the trot in all competitions and we don’t expect the home side to manage anything for their efforts.

Underdogs

The home side have been installed as big underdogs against the Blues following their remarkable recent downturn and it’s hard to back Hassenhuttl’s men right now, therefore we’ll be siding with Chelsea to keep their top-three bid alive by collecting all three points and the home side to score a consolation goal along the way.
