The 2021/22 Scottish Premiership campaign is now just a few weeks away and Steven Gerrard will be looking to take his side to a second successive title, therefore why not keep abreast of the latest Rangers scores and results by visiting our Fixtures & Results page.

Rangers odds on to make it two the bounce

Rangers ended nine years of dominance by Celtic when they stormed the Scottish Premiership title in 2020/21 and the bookies fancy their chances of making it two on the bounce in the upcoming campaign.

Update: 29.07.21

Rangers locked horns with Spanish giants Real Madrid in their last pre-season friendly on Sunday and Steven Gerrard’s men ran out 2-1 winners, therefore confidence will be high ahead of their opening Scottish Premiership outing against Livingston on Saturday afternoon. The Light Blues have lost just once in their pre-season campaign and the bookies have further shortened the odds on them winning a second consecutive Premiership title, most firms now going 4/9 that the trophy remains in the Ibrox trophy cabinet.

Hot on the heels of Rangers’ opening league match is their first Champions League qualifier against Malmo and this is followed just four days later by a trip to Dundee United in the league. As such, the Gers have a hectic schedule in their opening week and Gerrard will be desperately hoping for some positive results ahead of what promises to be a tough campaign.

Many pundits believe that Rangers can emulate their feat of 2020/21 by going through the league campaign without a single defeat to their name, however arch-rivals Celtic will be eager to provide the champions with more meaningful opposition under new manager Ange Postecoglou. The Hoops are second favourites to lift the Premiership trophy at the end of 2021/22 although their odds on doing so have slipped over the past few days, most firms now going 7/4 that the Parkhead outfit retake the ultimate domestic prize.

On other fronts, Rangers are 13/8 favourites to win the Scottish League Cup and they are the same odds to lift the Scottish FA Cup next season.

Update: 23.07.21

Having drawn 2-2 with Premier League side Arsenal in their last friendly, Rangers have had their odds shortened further in the ‘Scottish Premiership Winner 2021/22′ betting market. The Light Blues stormed to the title without suffering a single league defeat last term and the general consensus is that they will once again dominate north of the border in 21/22.

The Light Blues have had a mixed set of results thus far in their pre-season campaign with a win over Patrick Thistle followed by a 1-0 defeat at Tranmere Rovers and a subsequent 2-2 draw at home to Arsenal on Saturday. Steven Gerrard will be confident of hitting the ground running when the season gets underway in just a few weeks’ time and the bookies now go a general 4/9 that the Premiership trophy ends up at Ibrox at the end of next season.

As for Celtic, their season has got off to a somewhat disappointing start under their new manager, Ange Postecoglou’s men having been forced to settle for a share of the spoils by FC Midtjylland in their opening Champions League qualifier on Tuesday evening. This poor home result came on the back of a 1-0 defeat to Preston North End at Parkhead on Saturday afternoon and the Greek manager will be desperate to improve things when the Premiership season gets underway next month, the bookies now going 7/4 that the Hoops snatch the title back in 2021/22.

Indeed Celtic were very much second best last term, ultimately finishing a massive 25 points behind their arch-rivals and clearly they will be in for a tough time next season as they look to turn things around under their Greek boss.

Prior to the start of last season, Celtic were odds-on favourites to win the Scottish Premiership title for a record tenth time, however it’s fair to say that the Hoops never really got going and they effectively gave up the ghost relatively early in the campaign. Neil Lennon ultimately paid the price for his side’s failure to keep up with their arch-rivals and Rangers took full advantage of Celtic’s disarray and stormed the title with little trouble.

Clearly we cannot take anything away from Rangers – they were hugely impressive throughout the season and made it to the finish line without having suffered any defeats in league action. Steven Gerrard has undoubtedly moulded the Gers into a defensively solid unit and this was in evidence in their excellent European campaign.

Celtic have a new man at the helm in the form of Ange Postecoglou and hopes will be high in the Hoops camp that he can help the side bounce back from their disappointing 20/21 campaign. That said, Celtic were a country mile behind Rangers in all areas last season and it remains to be seen whether they can crawl back into title contention.

As things stand, Rangers are big odds-on favourites to win the Scottish Premiership title in 2021/22 with most bookies going 8/15 that the trophy once again ends up at Ibrox, while Celtic are a general 11/8 to grab it back from their arch-rivals.
