Republic of Ireland v Serbia Match Preview & Best Odds
Live coverage on Sky Sports at 7:45pm, Tuesday 7th September 2021
- Ireland remain winless after five group matches
- The Irish haven’t managed a win over Serbia in six attempts
- Serbia top the group with ten points from five matches
For the best part of ten years, faith and confidence in the Irish national football team has been extremely low and while they admittedly don’t possess the strongest squad, they should be managing wins over the likes of Azerbaijan and Luxembourg. The likelihood is that head coach Stephen Kenny will be gone after this qualifying campaign and whoever takes the reins will be tasked with bringing on some promising youngsters, some of whom may well take to the field on Tuesday evening for this tricky encounter.
Compared to Serbia, the disparity in Ireland’s forward areas makes for a complete contrast, Dragan Stojkovic’s side boasting some real top-level talent such as Filip Kostic, Susan Tadic, Aleksander Mitrovic and Susan Vlahovic amongst others. Given the relatively paltry attacking options for the home side, a single goal for the visitors may well be enough to lift them to victory in the Irish capital and thus further cement their place at the top of the qualifying group. The visitors have a wealth of attacking options at their disposal and we wouldn’t be surprised to see the Serbian goals flow in, especially given their recent goal-scoring form.
In fairness, Ireland’s hopes of making it to Qatar next year are now extremely slim and at odds-against, there’s some great value to be had on backing Serbia on the outright market here.
Back Serbia to win at best odds of 11/10
