Manchester United v AS Roma Match Preview

Live coverage on BT Sport 2 at 8pm, Thursday 29th April 2021

  • Manchester United last five European outings have each contained under 2.5 goals
  • The Red Devils are firm favourites to win this season’s Europa League
  • Roma have suffered defeat in each of their last two competitive outings

Manchester United have been enjoying some excellent form of late and they are very much in the driving seat as far as the battle for a Champions League berth for next season is concerned. Indeed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men have two potential routes into Europe’s top-tier club competition – a top four finish in the Premier League which is all-but-assured and victory in the Europa League which remains well within their grasp.

United haven’t exactly been banging in the goals for fun but they have been doing enough to grind out victories with wins in 12 of their last 17 outings and under 2.5 goals scored in their last five European outings. This puts them very much in the box seat ahead of tonight’s clash with their Serie A opponents.

Given that AS Roma have been impressive in this competition in terms of results, they certainly shouldn’t be underestimated. Nevertheless we weren’t completely convinced by their performance against Ajax and on the domestic front they leave a lot to be desired with just a single win in eight away games and five defeats during this time.

United are unquestionably the better side right now and odds-against for them to beat Roma tonight with under 3.5 total goals seem too good to ignore.
