Azerbaijan v Republic of Ireland Match Preview
Kick off: 5pm, Friday 8th October 2021
- The Republic of Ireland have won just once in 17 outings
- With three points between them, these sides won’t be going to Qatar next year
Two dreadfully poor sides lock horns in what in many respects is a meaningless encounter, at least as far as their World Cup ambitions are concerned. They sit in the bottom two places at the foot of Group A with even tiny Luxembourg sitting well above them as things stand. Azerbaijan have collected just a single point from their five group matches while the Irish have picked up just two during that time, therefore the chances of either of them reaching the play-off berths is now zero.
Given that nothing is at stake here, these two sides may produce an exciting match and go for it a bit more. The Irish fans will be desperate to see some goalmouth action from their side or head coach Stephen Kenny will likely be gone. As such the odds od 7/4 on offer for Over 2.5 goals seems somewhat underrated.
Azerbaijan have had relatively few issues on the goalscoring front and with Ireland under pressure to start delivering in the final third, there’s a possibility that we may witness something akin to a shootout between these struggling sides. Both will certainly fancy their chances of taking all three points here but it would be typical if it ends up with the spoils being shared.
Our Tip: Back the match to end in a draw at best odds of 21/10
